Moving overseas with children can be stressful for the whole family.
Kids will take some time to get adjusted to their new surroundings and will go through a period of culture shock.
Families can also have added pressure when they need to learn a new language.

You also have to think about how this will affect the other extended family members and especially the grandparents.
However, grandparents don’t have to miss your children growing up!
There are many things you can do to stay in touch that will keep grandparents and grandchildren close.
International phone calls used to be very expensive, but the internet has opened up many opportunities to stay in touch which are inexpensive and sometimes even free.

Videos
Most cameras and a lot of phones are now equipped with technology to produce videos.
You can keep your cameras with you at all times to capture first words, first steps and other milestones grandparents will not want to miss.
If your children are performing in a school play or piano recital, you can record these things to keep grandparents in the loop.
You can either email the videos or post them on free websites like YouTube so grandparents can be part of your children’s lives.
You can even create videos of your children giving a tour of their bedroom, at their school or with their friends.
Grandparents will see where their grandchildren live, go to school and who they hang out with so they get a real feel for their grandchildren’s daily lives.

Phone Calls and Skype
The internet has given people living abroad the advantage of keeping in touch for free.
There are many websites that will allow your children to call their grandparents for free or for a very minimal cost.
Grandparents can talk to their grandchildren while seeing them when they use services like Skype.
Video phone calls are a great way to for grandparents to see their grandchildren grow up.
Kids grow up so fast and can change daily, so this is a great way for grandparents to get to know their grandchildren.
This will also be beneficial for your children as they can develop memories of their grandparents even if they do live in separate countries.

Online Scrapbooks
There are websites, like flickr, that allow you to store and share digital pictures.
Make sure to capture as many memorable moments as possible and share the pictures online so grandparents can see their grandchildren.
You can create online scrapbooks, slideshows and even add captions to each picture so grandparents can look at the photos at their leisure.
Grandparents can also create slideshows and post pictures so their grandchildren can spend some time getting to know their parents’ mothers and fathers.

Visiting
Technology doesn’t replace seeing grandchildren in person.
If the grandparents are willing to travel overseas, arrange for an annual trip at the very minimum.
If the grandparents are getting too old to travel, make sure to plan as many trips as possible back to your home country so your children can get to know their grandparents.
Make sure to plan in advance to save money.
There are several travel websites that will alert you when airfare falls below a certain price that you set.
Set-up these alerts so you can get the best deals!

Greek mythology is one of the most intriguing influences on Western culture.
When moving to Greece, it will be good for you to know a little bit about the stories that came from your new country.
This religion has influenced politics, art and even many things we say today relate back to Greek Mythology.
IntlMOVE has put together a brief introduction to the Gods and some of the great Greek mythology stories.

When the god, Cronus, was overthrown by his sons there was a fight for power.
His sons, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades drew lots to decide who would become supreme ruler of all the Gods.
Zeus was the winner.
The brothers divided creation and each took a piece to control.
Zeus ruled the land and air, Poseidon ruled all water and Hades ruled the underworld.

Zeus is the god of thunder and lightning and is the ruler of the Gods.
His weapon of choice is a thunderbolt that he throws at his enemies or those who anger him.
He was considered a just god and punished those who break oaths or lie.
Although he is married to Hera, Zeus is known for his many affairs.

Poseidon, god of the sea, is Zeus’s brother.
He is married to Amphitrite.
His weapon is his trusty trident and he is known for his temper.

Hades, who is also the brother of Zeus, is lord of underworld and rules over the dead.
He abducted Persephone who he took as his wife.
He has a helmet that makes him invisible and is known to be very greedy and terrible.

Hestia is Zeus’s sister.
She is the Goddess of the Hearth, but does not play a role in a lot of the ancient stories.

Demeter is Zeus’s sister and is the goddess of corn, grain and harvest.
When her daughter, Persephone, was taken from her by Hades, she put a curse on the earth for all plants to wither and die.
Persephone had to spend 4 months in with Hades, so when she is allowed to return to Earth, Demeter bears her gifts in springtime.
This is how seasons were explained.

Hera is Zeus’s wife and also his sister.
She is the goddess of marriage and childbirth.
She did not want to marry Zeus, but she was tricked.
In fact, she even convinced the other gods to participate in a revolt against her husband.
The gods failed and Hera had to promise never to revolt again, but she did try to outwit Zeus in many instances.

Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera, which both disliked him.
He is the god of war, but he is also considered a coward.
He was mean and murderous.

Hephaestus is also the son of Zeus and Hera.
He is married to Aphrodite and is the god of smiths and weavers.
He is known as an ugly god, who is also lame.

Athena is the daughter of Zeus, and also his favorite child.
She was born from her father’s head fully grown and in full armor.
Athena is the goddess of the city, handicrafts and agriculture.

Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto.
He is the god of music.

Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo.
She is the goddess of chastity and the protector of the young.
Artemis protects women during childbirth.
All wild animals are sacred to her, with a particular fondness for the deer.

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, desire and beauty.
She was born from the sea in a giant scallop shell and then walked onto the shore at Cyprus.
She had a golden girdle, which made her irresistible to men.

Hermes, who is Zeus’s messenger, is the fastest of the gods.
He is son of Zeus and Maia and wears winged sandals, a winged hat and carries a magic wand.
He is the god of thieves and commerce and also acts as a guide for the dead to go to the underworld.

Eros, who is today known as Cupid, was the god of love.
The attractive young man had wings and used arrows to pierce the hearts of people falling in love.

Hercules is the son of Zeus and the mortal woman, Alcmene.
He is known for the 12 difficult tasks he had to perform, which were given to him by Hera.
Hera was jealous of Zeus’s affair with Alcmene and made life very difficult for this mythical hero.
